Mechanism of action
LL-37 is the only human cathelicidin-derived antimicrobial peptide, a 37-residue amphipathic α-helix. Its primary research property is interaction with and disruption of microbial membranes, the basis of its antimicrobial activity in vitro.
Beyond direct antimicrobial action, it is studied for immunomodulatory roles — chemotaxis, modulation of innate-immune signaling, and angiogenesis — in research models.
