Mechanism of action
Glutathione (GSH) is an endogenous tripeptide (γ-glutamyl-cysteinyl-glycine) and the cell's principal thiol antioxidant. Its reactive cysteine thiol neutralizes reactive oxygen species and serves as a substrate for glutathione peroxidase in redox-balance research.
It also participates in phase-II detoxification via glutathione-S-transferase conjugation, making it a core tool in oxidative-stress and detoxification studies.
